Having a cracking Christmas time at Hengist Field Care Home

Our Recreation and Well-Being Team here at Hengist Field Care Home are simply the best at ensuring all our residents feel included, every day. There’s never a dull moment and always something for everyone to enjoy – no more so than at Christmas time! This last week has been festive and fun-filled.

Christmas arts crafts

On Tuesday 12 December we held a Christmas arts and crafts afternoon. We added some finding touches to our table decorations – ready to use for our Christmas meals on the big day. Well done everyone – you had some great ideas and they look amazing.

Mary and Mercy carol singing

On Wednesday 13 December, we had a visit from Mary and Mercy from The Evangelical Church, and what a magical treat it was. They came and sung some carols to us and they also presented each of our Hengist Field residents with a lovely tasty-treats-filled-hamper for them to enjoy. It was a lovely afternoon, and the atmosphere was so Christmassy! We continued the Christmas-song-singing after the lovely Mary and Mercy had left.

Thank you Mary for helping to organise this afternoon.

Nativity at Milstead and Frinsted Primary School

What a wonderful morning we had at The Milstead and Frinsted Primary School Nativity on Thursday 14 December. The children did brilliantly and it was so lovely, if not a little emotional. We had a lovely cuppa with cakes and mince pies afterwards.

Some of the children came back to sit and talk to us; they had such characters and were asking questions – some of them were so funny. Just before we left to come back to Hengist Field the children sang “We Wish you a Merry Christmas”.

A huge thank you to The Milstead and Frinsted School for inviting us, and to Karen for all your help and support in arranging it.

Ukelele concert

On Thursday 14 December afternoon here at Hengist Field, we had a group of local Ukulele players. What another great afternoon it was, with everyone singing along to the Christmas tunes. The two-part concert comprised of non-christmassy and Christmas-themed songs. One of the ladies even dressed as a snowman for the second half; everyone thoroughly enjoyed it!

Christmas pantomime ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’

Here at Hengist Field, we had our Christmas pantomime – ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’ – in the afternoon in Friday 15 December. It was brilliant and everyone sang along, clapped, waved their arms and had a fantastic time. Who doesn’t enjoy a pantomime at Christmas? Oh yes we do!

There is such a festive atmosphere and Christmas is definitely upon us. To add to the festivities we enjoyed some mulled wine and mince pies to round the afternoon off; lovely.

Christmas pony visit

In the afternoon on Sunday 17 December, our Senior Carer Sharon brought two of her wonderful ponies into Hengist Field. Sharon had dressed the ponies in their Christmas attire and they looked amazing. Our residents and staff absolutely adored them, they gave them apples, carrots and treats, and wanted their photos taken with them.

Our residents looked and watched from both the corridors, lounges and joined the ponies outside. It was just a beautiful afternoon that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The ponies were great and brought so much joy, smiles and comfort.

Thank you to Sharon and The Cherry Acre Livery for bringing them to visit us.
