Scented wreaths
We enjoyed a lovely afternoon at Hengist Field Care Home this week making scented rosemary Easter wreaths.
We used the herb rosemary to smell and reminisce, Easter chicks, bunnies, stickers and coloured pens to decorate them and add a personal design. Our residents really enjoyed it and we are very pleased with our creations.
Dementia baby doll
Meet our new member of the Hengist Field family – baby Aaron, named by our residents!
Aaron is a Dementia doll, who arrived yesterday. He looks and feels so lifelike. And everyone wanted to hold him, even our staff!
The smiles and kisses Aaron got yesterday from our residents was just amazing to see. He will be a brilliant source of comfort, security, relaxation and therapy. Holding or just being with a doll, can be particularly helpful for residents who may be withdrawn, restless, distressed or anxious – as it can help improve well-being and communication.
Caring for and holding Aaron can give residents with Dementia a sense of purpose and help with their energy and mood levels. We also now have a pram, so our ladies and gents can take Aaron for a walk if they wish. He’s certain to be a pampered baby!
Anniversary visit
We had a lovely visit yesterday from a friend of Hengist Field, Lesley Jarvis Woodward Warren.
Lesley’s mum Hilary lived with us for approximately 10 years, before she sadly passed away.
Hilary was loved by everyone and Lesley likes to come and visit Hengist Field – especially on her mum’s birthday and the anniversary of her death – to see all of our staff, which she has been unable to do due to the pandemic until yesterday.
Lesley bought a beautiful flower arrangement, which she gave to Silvia, the lady who is now residing in what used to be Hilary’s room. She also brought some beautiful homemade fairy cakes for our staff.
It was great to see you Lesley! Thank you for coming to see us and thank you for the delicious cakes. Visit us again soon. xxx
