Annual BBQ party at Hengist Field Care Home

Beach-themed barbecue bonanza

Wow, what can we say? Our beach-themed BBQ on Saturday 26 August here at Hengist Field Care Home was an absolutely fantastic day!

For maximum beach-themed fun and visual impact, we decorated our large Orangery garden with wind breakers, Punch and Judy, a photo booth, handmade beach huts, fishing nets with shells, fish and our own handmade resin shells and starfish. We even had our own hand made jelly fish – some made from umbrellas and others made from hanging baskets.

So to the beach! We had a sand pit, buckets and spades, pools of water, swing ball, splat the rat and more. We also decorated with an assortment of beach inflatables and plenty of bunting.

Our wonderful residents and Activities Team have been working on projects for the last few months in preparation for the BBQ, including a selection of resin art, beautifully painted and decorated canvases, shell vases, handmade cards, crochet blankets, bird Houses and more, which were also up for sale with all proceeds going to our Residents’ Fund.

We also had a tombola stall with some lovely prizes (some of which had been donated, thank you!) and Kay Wade from our Well-Being Team also donated a treatment of the winner’s choice – thank you Kay. We also had ‘Kiss Me Quick Hats’ because you can’t go to the beach and not have a ‘Kiss Me Quick Hat’!

Our amazing Chefs prepared an amazing feast of different salads, potato salad, coleslaw, burgers, hotdogs and flavoured chicken, complimented by a selection of different gateaux, fruit salad, ice creams, lollies and choc ices – yummy! And to wash all that down we had a selection of drinks including squash, sherry, wine, Pimm’s and lemonade, cold beer and fruit punch.

While everyone was enjoying the day, we had one of our favourite singers come to entertain us – Rob T and his ukulele – who sang some favourite songs and did a grand job as always.

We also made a special announcement and presentation as our Deputy Manager Chrys was celebrating her 50th birthday; we all sang “Happy birthday” to her and she was presented with a beautiful cake, flowers and gifts. Many happy returns Chrys.

It was just such a wonderful day and we have had some lovely feedback. Thank you so much to everyone for coming and sharing the day with us. Even the weather was on our side and the sun shone!
