Celebrating St Davids Day with Welsh cakes at Hengist Field Care Home

We had a fun afternoon at Hengist Field Care Home this week when we came together in our activities room to make Welsh cakes for St David’s Day.

There was so much laughter as everyone tried to say Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch’. This is the longest Welsh word, which in English translates rather wonderfully to: ‘St Marys church in the hollow of white hazel, near a rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio near the red cave’!

We also chatted about Welsh love spoons, which were given as a token of love and affection. We learnt what each symbol means, as each spoon is unique.

Once everyone had made their Welsh cakes, they were baked so that they could be enjoyed by our residents with a lovely cuppa – delicious!

Everyone commented that they’d had such a lovely afternoon, with plenty of giggles!
