Right royal feasts at Hengist Field Care Home

What a fabulous week we had here at Hengist Field Care Home, celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style!

Afternoon tea

On Wednesday 1 June, our residents started their day by watching a DVD of the Queen’s coronation, narrated by Sir Laurence Olivier, which was so interesting.

Once our tables were all set up, we decorated them to make them look beautiful, with all the trimmings, for a special Jubilee afternoon tea.

Our residents were very excited and kept telling staff how fantastic everything looked!

Our Chef Kay certainly pulled out all the stops with her exceptional eye for detail, skills and knowledge. The sweet treats looked and tasted absolutely gorgeous – our residents enjoyed some of the Queen’s favourites:

  • Lemon cake
  • Scones with jam and cream
  • Union Jack strawberries
  • Union Jack fruit platter
  • Union Jack cupcakes.

We had Pimm’s and lemonade, Bucks Fizz, sherry, non-alcoholic Prosecco and plenty of tea or coffee and soft drinks too and our team dressed up as vintage waitresses in mop caps and frilly aprons to serve everyone – such a brilliant day!

Street party

The fun continued on Friday 3 June at our Jubilee street party, which certainly went with a bang!

Singer Kevin Walsh came in to entertain us with a variety of songs, which everyone sang along to whilst waving their flags.

We invited family members to join in the celebrations with their loved ones and everyone had fun with Jubilee blowers, hats and royal masks.

Our decorations and tables looked fantastic, the food was top notch and presented beautifully – definitely fit for a queen! Our Kitchen staff really did us proud.

Our staff joined in with the singing, dancing and dressing up. Everyone had such a wonderful time and didn’t want the afternoon to end, so Kevin sang some extra songs for us all!

What a memorable Jubilee week at Hengist Field – huge thanks to everyone involved in making it so special!
