Hengist Field team awarded Outstanding Contribution Trophy

Hengist Field Care Home is recognised for supporting Borden Church’s poppy tribute

Residents, staff and volunteers from Hengist Field Care Home were delighted to be awarded with a special Nellsar ‘Outstanding Contribution’ Trophy on Tuesday 4 December. The award was in recognition of their amazing efforts in working with their local community through Saint Peter & Saint Paul Church in Borden.

Back in February, volunteers Wendy and Nicola approached Hengist Field to see if the team would like to join them in supporting the Church in knitting and crafting poppies for the 100th Royal British Legion Celebration.

Hengist Field were thrilled with the idea of being involved and residents, staff, families of staff and friends all started to knit poppies for the Church’s remembrance display.

Wendy and Nicola, whose mum and friend Peggy is a resident at Hengist Field, kindly gave up their own time to visit Hengist Field every Friday to sit and knit with residents, or make the poppies from card and tissue paper – this was aptly named the ‘Knit & Natter Club’.

Together the team contributed over 600 knitted poppies for the appeal, which was an amazing achievement. The project aimed to bring together 1,918 knitted or paper-crafted poppies in the Church to mark the special centenary year – and they succeeded! The display was truly moving and a very touching tribute to those lost in the war

Well done to the Hengist Field Team for an outstanding effort and well-deserved trophy!
