Feeding feathered friends at Hengist Field Care Home

On Saturday 22 January our residents enjoyed an afternoon of making bird feeders, as we are gearing up for the Big Garden Birdwatch this coming weekend (28-30 January).

To entice birds to Hengist Field, we made a buffet of bird feeders and they are now spoilt for choice! We used wild bird food, seeds, weetos and cheerios, all deliciously encased in smooth peanut butter (Sun-Pat peanut butter too… only the best for our birds!).

Our residents then chose either cardboard stars, circles or toilet rolls to create their feeders. They painted on the peanut butter, then placed the bird food on top. During the activity, we had amazing bird sounds playing in the background, to remind us how beautiful birdsong is – something we can often take for granted.

When they were complete, our wonderful Hanna placed our feeders in our courtyard, all ready for the birdies to feast on.

Hildy’s star bird feeder was like a work or art, Ken’s circle feeder was more traditional, with wild bird food only and Wendy made her circle feeder then jumped right in with a toilet roll for her next one! Our Pam had help from her darling doggy Stone – we think he was enjoying the peanut butter too much!

Everbody was proud to see their own feeder put outside straight away for the birds to enjoy.

We are all looking forward to seeing our feathered friends soon and hope they enjoy all the treats on offer!
